I've never felt inclined to dig into Bernays' life--from what I've seen, he sounds rather boring and not someone that positive insights on the human condition could be drawn. But I think it's fair to say that he was very well aware about power and moneychangers. I've never seen any hint that he ever used his analysis and techniques as a means of improving the human condition. Quite the contrary--and he was paid very well for that.
