One of the many books of Michael Parenti Ithat I'm looking forward to reading is "Waiting For Yesterday", where he covers his childhood, America as a "melting pot", and what he learned from his experiences.
Me, I'm a mixture of Eastern European (the borders have been redrawn so much that I'd have to do digging to figure it all out, and I suspect it'd still be scrambled), and "Heinz 57" Western European. So whenever I get one of those annoying ethnic questions, I either put down "Human", or decline to answer.
I think it's cool to have "old country" traditions/culture brought into the American mix, altho I don't have much there beyond my Grandparents' liking of Lawrence Welk.
