Pedowood Cracks The Whip
Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is informing its peasant class that they need to STFU.
Telling them to not be creative, to not think for themselves. Follow the company line, do as they're told, say only what they are permitted to say. Whether at work, or on what they thought was their own time.
"Across film, television, music, sports, digital media, marketing, and beyond, we represent thousands of the world’s leading actors, directors, writers, producers, musical artists, comedians, authors, athletes, coaches, broadcasters, teams, leagues, chefs, designers, fashion talent, consumer brands, and more."
Deadline has an article that a contortionist—or George Orwell—could love:
“CAA reminded its staff about its common sense social media policy.
The agency held an all-hands meeting this afternoon and one of the topics that came up related to agents and others posting on services and apps such as Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter.”
_____
So far so good. Management telling employees how to do their job. Distasteful, perhaps, but not unusual, and not “wrong” in a hierarchical organization.
A constant theme in my Posts has been to find a way to work for yourself, to Homeschool your children, to be independent. CAA's “staff meeting”, or what I would term “shaft meeting”, is another illustration.

But a few paragraphs later, the article takes a twist:
“Sources at CAA told Deadline that today’s meeting was about reinforcing these points and making sure that agents and others represent themselves and the company well on the web.” [Emphasis and italics added].
_____
Well that got real ugly real fast. Is CAA some sort of an 1800s Southern Plantation? CAA owns the bodies, minds, and souls, of its property 24/7? Representing the company is one thing; what they do, say, and think on their own time is something completely different.

The story concludes:
“[I]t does come after the situation regarding Maha Dakhil, the co-head of motion pictures, who resigned from the agency’s internal board and temporarily stepped away from the day-to-day leadership after reposting an Instagram story last week that said, 'You’re currently learning who supports genocide.'”.
_____
One has to click through a couple hyperlinks (I'll save you the trouble) to get to the fact that Dakhil committed the faux pas on her personal Instagram account. Not CAA's, and not that of any of her clients.
The “strikes” in Pedowood remind me of a horror movie—or (s)election—in which I'm cheering for the monsters to destroy each other.
Manufactured “reality”, fake facts, false narratives. Television and movies that, instead of entertain, push various nefarious agendas.
A salute from afar to Maha Dakhil, who may have risked her career and pulled the veil back a bit for all to see?
Maybe.
It will be interesting to see where Maha goes from here. Just another fake fight to intimidate others that might be thinking about speaking out? Or the real deal, a realization that she has become involved in some very dark activities, but that Redemption is possible, at least through the time of one's last breath.
