Leading A New Pack...Safe Travels, Mary
One of the downsides of getting old is the Passing of those whose talents you enjoyed for many years.
There was something unique about Mary's voice that helped the Shangri-Las stand out from many of the other 1960's "girl groups".
Variety published a nice remembrance. How America was once much more of a land where one could come from humble beginnings and do well. A good read about what was, what might yet be again.
When so many musicians put out sub-par material and try to continue to ride their own coattails, this passage in the article touched me:
"The group declined several reunion offers but regrouped in 1976 under the aegis of Sire Records — helmed by Seymour Stein, a veteran of their era — but were dissatisfied with the album they recorded and it remains unreleased."
Remembering Mary with her lead vocals in "Leader Of The Pack".
