I'll still agree with Jefferson, and with Benjamin Franklin who accurately observed:
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”
Separately, Franklin also observed, as is relevant to protection of the flock by Presidents:
"Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you.".
